Fire Prevention Month

It is Fire Prevention Month and the MFD will be out fulfilling their mission of teaching Fire Safety! We are doing multiple events to reach as many children in town as possible. It is also up to the parents and caregivers at home to reinforce the message of fire safety!

Here are some of the events and dates for this month. Please share!

Mahwah Fire Co. 1 Blood Drive, Saturday Oct 7th 10am-2pm

Fire Truck Visit and Story Time at the Mahwah Library Oct 10th 6pm (story at 7pm)

Lenape Meadows Fire Safety Day Friday October 12th

Betsy Ross Fire Safety Day Wednesday October 17th

Franklin Turnpike Smoke Condition

At around 11:45 last night Fire Company 1 responded to Franklin Turnpike for a fire alarm. When firefighters arrived they found a heavy smoke condition inside the building, and called for additional firefighters. As crews searched the building they found that an unattended stove was causing the smoke. After shutting off the stove and removing the smoke firefighters began to return to quarters.

September 2018 Call Break-down

This September Company 1 responded to 33 calls for service. This month there was 1 brush fire, 1 dumpster fire, 2 elevator rescues, 2 vehicle extrications, 21 fire alarms, 2 gas leaks, 3 smoke conditions, and 1 smell of smoke. As always, the volunteer members of Company 1 are ready to respond 24 hours a day 7 days week.
