July 2016 Call Break-down

This month Company 1 responded to 26 calls for service. This month there was 1 brush fire, 3 burning smells, 1 carbon monoxide alarm, 9 fire alarms, 4 gas leaks, 4 smells/visible smoke, 2 vehicle fires, and we were dispatched to 2 structure fires. As always, the volunteer members of Company 1 are ready to respond 24 hours a day 7 days week.

Working Fire: Post Office Rubbish Fire

At around 715PM tonight Fire companies 1, 2, 3 and 4 responded to the Post Office (East Ramapo Ave) for a working structure fire. The first arriving units reported that the fire was a small rubbish fire that was contained to the loading dock. Members from Company 1 quickly extinguished it and began to overall the area. Within an hour all units had returned to quarters.

Marriott Smoke Condition

Last night at around 10PM, Fire Companies 1 and 2 were dispatched to the Marriott hotel for a fire alarm. Upon arrival, the first units on scene immediately noticed smoke emanating from the roof, and a moderate smoke condition inside of the indoor pool room. The alarm was immediately re-dispatched as a smoke condition and Companies 3 and 4 began their response. After about an hour of searching, a faulty air conditioner was found to be the cause. The air conditioner was shut down and all crews returned to quarters shortly after.

Tractor Trailer Assist

Today at around 3:15PM Rescue 1 and Fire Company 2 were dispatched to Route 287N to assist with a disabled tractor trailer. Once on scene Rescue 1’s crew found that trailer had become stuck and partially lost contact with the ground after the driver had moved to the shoulder of the highway. Members from Rescue 1 stood by while a tow company assisted the tractor trailer. After roughly an hour and a half Rescue 1 had returned to quarters.

Mutual Aid To Suffern

Fire Company 1 is currently standing by at a major gas leak in Suffern NY…


This afternoon at around 3:30PM Fire Company 1 was requested to Milford Lane, in Suffern for a major gas leak. Once on scene members from Company 1 along with members from Suffern Fire began to search the area to find the source of the leak. Once the source was determined Company 1 stood by at the scene for some time before being released.
