John Ruit, Jr.

It is with our deepest regret that we announce the passing of John Ruit, Jr. Grandfather of Steven Ruit.

The Ruit family will receive friends on Friday, 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM with a Fire dept. service at 7:30 PM at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff.  

Funeral services will be held Saturday 10:00 AM at the Faith Community Christian Reformed Church, 530 Sicomac Avenue, Wyckoff.  

Interment will follow in the Wyckoff Reformed Church Cemetery. Memorial contributions in John’s name may be made to the Faith Community Christian Reformed Church or Sicomac Community Engine Company #3, P.O. Box 224, Wyckoff, NJ 07481

Ramapo College Fireworks

Drill Night: Vehicle Extrication

Last night at our weekly drill Company 1 members went to the fire academy to practice their extrication skills. In addition to using the jaws of life, members also spent time learning to use other tools such as grinders and air tools. Think you would like to join us? Lightning Strike

At around 12:30 last night Fire Companies 1, 2, 3, & 4 responded to Faulkner Court for a burning smell inside of a home. After investigating, Mahwah Fire found that the home had been struck by lightning. After ensuring the home, as well as the neighbors, were safe Mahwah Fire begin to return to quarters at around 2 a.m.

Vehicle Fire

At around 1:45 this afternoon fire companies 1 and 2 responded to Wanamaker Ave for a vehicle fire. The fire arriving units found that a small truck was on fire and that the occupant was out of the vehicle. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and overhauled the area before returning to quarters. 

Drill Night: Torches

Giovanni Pertuz

The officers and members of Company 1 are heartbroken to learn of the passing of current Mahwah Co 2 President Giovanni Pertuz. Gio was a dedicated fireman, husband, and Father of two great kids.

Funeral Services will be Monday, July 30th from 1-4 and 6-9pm at Gentiles Funeral Home in Hackensack with a fire department service at 730pm. Funeral Service will be Tuesday, July 31st at 1030am at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church with a Burial to follow at Mary Rest Cemetery.

Please keep Gio, his wife and children, and the entire Mahwah Fire Department in your prayers during this most difficult time.

June 2018 Call Break-down

This June Company 1 responded to 37 calls for service. This month there was 1 brush fire, 1 burning smell, 4 dispatched structure fire, 1 set of down utility wires, 6 EMS assists, 1 elevator rescue, 16 fire alarms, 3 gas leaks, 1 mutual aid request for a fire, 1 oven fire, 1 smoke condition, and 1 vehicle fire. As always, the volunteer members of Company 1 are ready to respond 24 hours a day 7 days week.
                            

Darlington Ave Entrapment

At around 12:30 this afternoon Rescue 1 along with Fire Companies 2 and 4 responded to Darlington Avenue for a motor vehicle accident with an entrapped driver. After arriving on scene members of Rescue 1 stabilized the vehicle and worked to extricate the driver. After the driver was removed from the vehicle they were transported to an area hospital by Mahwah EMS.

Services For Firefighter Giovanni “Gio” Pertuz

Visitation will be Monday, July 30th from 1-4pm and 6-9pm at Thomas Gentile funeral home, located at 397 Union Street, Hackensack. The fire department service will be held at 730PM

Funeral mass will be held Tuesday, July 31st at 10:30am at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church located at 47 Island Road, Mahwah. The mass will be followed by a burial at Maryrest Cemetery in Mahwah.

Any Fire Department members attending any of the services are asked to be in full Class A uniforms.
