March 2017 Call Break-down

This March Company 1 responded to 26 calls for service. This month there was 1 brush fire, 1 burning smell, 2 carbon monoxide alarms, 1 dumpster fire, 1 EMS assist, 1 extrication, 10 fire alarms, 1 HAZMAT, 1 mutual aid request for a fire, 2 oven fires, 1 smoke condition, 1 sparking wire, 2 smells of smoke, and 1 stand-by. As always, the volunteer members of Company 1 are ready to respond 24 hours a day 7 days week.

Large Brush Fire At The Ramapo Reservation

This afternoon Fire Companies 2 and 5 responded to the Ramapo Reservation for reports of a large amount of smoke. After some searching, a large brush fire was found in the area above the upper lake. After crews hiked up to the fire, Company 1 and also additional units from Ramsey FD and the State Forest Fire Service were requested and began to arrive at the Reservation.  After arriving Company 1, along with other units, stood by at the upper lake while the State Forest Fire Service used a helicopter to drop water on to the fire. After two hours all crews were released from the scene by the State Forest Fire Service, who continued to extinguish the blaze and overhaul the area.

Dive Team Search And Rescue

This afternoon at around 4:30pm Rescue 1’s Dive team was requested to Wesley Hills New York to assist in the search for a missing person. After arriving on scene Rescue 1 joined first responders from around Rockland County and was directed to search a small lake off of Spook Rock Road. After around 2 hours searching the lake and confirming that the person was not there, Rescue 1 was released and returned to quarters. The missing person was later found unharmed.
