Heavy Rescue History

The Mahwah FD Heavy Rescue is considered one of the best. They are well trained and certified to cover almost every kind of rescue. From simple elevator rescues, vehicle accidents, structure collapse, confined space, water rescues. and many others. This is not an accident. They have been training longer than most. Here is a picture from the early seventies (submitted by former member Dan Tyrell).

Drill Night: Ladders And Tools

Last night at our weekly drill Company 1 firefighters practiced setting up and using ladders, along with raising and lowering tools to the roof of a building. Both of which are important skills that each firefighters needs to be proficient at.

December 2018 Call Break-down

This December Company 1 responded to 43 calls for service. This month there was 1 run-away boiler, 1 chimney fire, 1 carbon monoxide alarm, 2 dispatched structure fires, 1 EMS assist, 2 vehicle extrications, 23 fire alarms, 7 gas leaks, 1 mutual aid request for fire, 1 smoke condition, and 3 vehicle fires. As always, the volunteer members of Company 1 are ready to respond 24 hours a day 7 days week.

                            

Winter Storm And State Of Emergency

Drill Night: SCBA Familiarization

Last night at our weekly drill, Company 1 Firefighters practiced untangling and then putting on their SCBA’s while blindfolded. This helps to teach familiarization with all parts of the SCBA and it is also good practice if Firefighters need to perform this during a fire or somewhere with low visibility.

SCUBA Task Force Drill

Today the North Jersey Regional Scuba Task Force held a drill at Bergen Community College where divers practiced recovering a victim and also using the remotely operated vehicle or ROV.
