December 2017 Call Break-down

This December Company 1 responded to 35 calls for service. This month there were 3 boiler issues, 2 carbon monoxide alarms, 3 dispatched structure fires, 1 elevator rescue, 1 extrication, 17 fire alarms, 5 gas leaks, 1 smell of smoke, 1 working fire, and 1 vehicle fire. As always, the volunteer members of Company 1 are ready to respond 24 hours a day 7 days week.

During today’s storm members of Company 1 as well as the rest of Mahwah Fire stood by in their respective firehouses and responded to our community’s needs. As the first storm of the year winds down Mahwah Fire is reminding everyone to stay safe and use caution if traveling tonight.

Motor Vehicle Accident With Entrapment

At around 6:40 tonight Rescue 1, Fire Company 2, and EMS responded to MacArthur Boulevard for a Motor Vehicle Accident with an entrapped driver. After arriving on scene Rescue 1 stabilized the vehicle and then successfully extricated the driver. After the driver was removed they were transported by Mahwah EMS to an area hospital.

At around 6PM tonight Rescue 1, Fire Company 2, and EMS responded to MacArthur Boulevard for a Motor Vehicle Accident with an entrapped driver. After arriving on scene Rescue 1 stabilized the vehicle and then successfully extricated the driver. After the driver was removed they were transported to an area hospital by Mahwah EMS.

This year Company 1 responded to 304 calls for service. These calls were 7 boiler issues, 5 brush fires, 4 burning smells, 1 chimney fire, 15 carbon monoxide alarms, 17 dispatched structure fires, 2 dryer fires, 1 dumpster fire, 12 EMS assists, 3 electrical issues, 9 elevator rescues, 15 extrications, 146 fire alarms, 2 fuel spills, 23 gas leaks, 2 grill fires, 1 HAZMAT call, 3 mutual aid requests for a fire, 1 mutual aid request for the fan boat, 1 mutual aid request for the dive team, 1 mutual aid request for a fast team, 3 oven fires, 1 rubbish fire, 9 smoke conditions, 5 calls for sparking wires, 6 smells of smoke, 2 stand-by’s, 1 technical rescue, 1 wash-down, 1 water rescue, 2 working fires, and 2 vehicle fires.  

As always, the volunteer members of Company 1 are ready to respond 24 hours a day 7 days week. As 2018 starts we are continuing to look forward to serving our community.

At around 5:30 yesterday evening fire companies 1, 2, 3, 4, Mahwah EMS and mutual aid from around the area responded to Marion Drive for a structure fire. Crews worked for several hours to extinguish the fire before returning to quarters.

Mahwah Fire Department History: Equipment Donation

In 1968 Mahwah FD received a donation of the latest rescue technology from the NW Bergen Board of Realtors. Accepting the Porta Power Unit from the Officers of the Board of Realtors (Jack Levine and Frank Dator) are Assistant Chief Don Vilmar and FF’s Dave Meester and John Deming.

Drill Night: Ice Rescue Training
